How I met my husband
Sometimes I envy couples that have these amazingly romantic stories about how they met. Granted I’d be willing to wager that more than a few of the tales I’ve heard are subject to a little bit of embellishment. However, even without that I’d say that all of them are a touch more romantic that meeting under an awning in Montreal like my husband and I.
I still remember it like it was yesterday. I was out shopping and it suddenly started to rain. I hadn’t brought an umbrella with me and I could tell the rain was in for the long haul so I made a dash to the nearest awning in Montreal as fast as I could. Apparently my future husband had the same idea as we both arrived under the awning in Montreal at the same time and crashed into each other.
My shopping went all over the floor and I would have fallen as well if he hadn’t of caught me. I was so mad! Straight away, I was chastising him for being so careless, even though neither of us was looking where we were going. Got to get the first argument won after all!
Still, when he looked at me with those gorgeous eyes all of my anger suddenly melted away. He had such a cute and sheepish look on his face as he helped me gather up my shopping that I knew I couldn’t stay mad at him. We spent more than an hour under that awnings Montreal, just chatting about the day. Eventually, we got talking about a few other things and I have to admit the attraction was almost instant. I was absolutely overjoyed when he asked me out for a coffee. We even arranged to meet under the same awning!
Now that I think about it, I guess it was fate that brought us together. If it hadn’t rained that day we may never have even met. I sometimes wonder what life would have been like if that had been the case.
Of course, I’m very happy with the way things turned out and in typing it out like that has made me realise that perhaps out story is a little more romantic than I thought it was. I’ve always just said we met under an awning, but there is so much more to it than that. Maybe our little love story isn’t so pedestrian after all.
